Geneva Peace Week 2024

Geneva Peace Week 2024

The Geneva Centre for Security Policy, as a member of and in partnership with, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, are pleased to announce the 11th Geneva Peace Week 2024 (GPW24): “What is Peace”.

Geneva Peace Week (GPW) is a leading annual forum in the international peacebuilding calendar through which organizations in Geneva and their international partners come together to share knowledge and practice on a diverse range of topics related to peace across contexts and disciplines.

Geneva Peace Week creates an opportunity to connect and highlight the work of peacebuilders and to expand the space for each and every person, actor and institution that has a role to play in building peace and resolving conflict. GPW recognizes that peacebuilding occurs in many different contexts and cuts across disciplines and sectors. In this sense, Geneva Peace Week breaks down professional silos to enable creative responses to violence, exclusion and insecurity. By synchronizing meetings and events on different topics related to the promotion of peace for one week, GPW maximizes synergies between organizations in Geneva and their international partners, focusing on the cross-cutting nature of peace.

The Geneva Peace Week is the flagship initiative of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform. This year marks the 11th edition of the Geneva Peace Week. The Peace Week is organised in collaboration with the members of the consortium who govern the strategic decision-making processes of the Geneva Peace Week. The members of the consortium include the Geneva Graduate Institute’s Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding  , the Quaker United Nations Office, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), Interpeace, The United Nations Office at Geneva,  Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), Geneva Graduate Institute, the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva, Principles for Peace, Initiatives of Change – The Caux Foundation , and the Kofi Annan Foundation.

The title and thematic direction of this year’s edition is “What is Peace”. The opening ceremony will take place on the 14th of October and will include an address from our Director Ambassador Thomas Greminger.

The GCSP is honoured to act as a venue for the workshops and half of the panels during the Geneva Peace Week. Furthermore, we are organising multiple events ourselves, either as co-organisers or main organisers. On the 15th of October we are organising a panel on the Futures of Peacebuilding Missions and Operations. On the 15th of October as well we are co-organising an event with the OSCE. Finally, on the 15th of October IPI are organising a Public Policy Forum as a side event in partnership with The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), International Gender Champions, the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD), and the Berghof Foundation. The title is: A Feminist Peace Built by All: Pathways to Inclusive Visions of Peace.
