In the interview we discuss the question of A New Scramble for Africa with Dr Didier Plécard, Professor at the Global Studies Institute, University of Geneva. We asked him the following questions:

  • You talk about a “new scramble” in Africa. What does that mean? How is this different from the colonial era?
  • How would you describe China’s presence in Africa today?
  • As the political, economical and social situations diverge strongly between some African states, Can we still talk about “Africa”, or shouldn’t we more focus on specific countries or sub regions of the continent?
