A Hungarian Lens on European Security Initiatives for Building Back Peace in Europe – A Geneva Security Debate
Since the start of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán pursued an active foreign policy. He visited President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv for a meeting, made a surprise visit to President Vladimir Putin and attended an informal summit of the Organisation of Turkic States hosted by Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan. Finally, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán flew to Beijing for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
As Europe faces complex geopolitical challenges, Hungary is actively embracing and pursuing an active foreign policy that is shaped by its unique perspectives due to its central location and history.
The discussion will delve into Hungary's approach to regional cooperation including NATO and EU defense strategies, as well as the balance between national sovereignty and collective security.
