Countering Human Trafficking in the Virtual Era of the “New Normal” – An Alumni Insight Event
Location
Virtual
The series of Alumni Insight events are being convened each month with professional contributions by GCSP Alumni on selected topics in international peace and security.
This Alumni Insight explores the third largest criminal activity in the world: human trafficking. It is often observed as a permanent human rights crisis at a global level.
The “New Normal” has made our lives dependant on the cyber sphere. Moreover, it is becoming one of the most important critical infrastructure segments and security concern in most states worldwide. Cyber-trafficking of human beings has also become an emerging security and human rights challenge, which stretches beyond national frontiers and regulations.
Join us for this Alumni Insight to:
- Analyse cyber trafficking, cyber victimisation and its impact on global security.
- Explore the global lack of experience within national and international legislation.
- Exchange on the impact of Covid-19 and its potential to transfer global demand of human trafficking to the digital sphere.
- Discuss whether human trafficking opportunities generated by the “new normal” are influencing people’s mindsets worldwide, consequently distorting the need for human rights and human security protection at different levels.
