The Art of Multilateralism: Challenges and Opportunities for Economic Development
On the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the GCSP's oldest course the “Leadership in International Security Course” (LISC), formerly the International Training Course in Security Policy (ITC), a series of Alumni Insight events are being convened each month with professional contributions by ITC-LISC Alumni on selected topics in international peace and security.
The topic of this April session is "The Art of Multilateralism: Challenges and Opportunities for Economic Development”. In today’s world, we see a clear rise in protectionism, highlighting more than ever the need for multilateral cooperation to lead us through our current COVID crisis and its severe economic implications. With this in mind, Counsellor Rasha Hamdy, Director for Economy and External Relations of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, seconded from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, will share her experience on the challenges encountered within this multilateral domain in navigating competing interests, as well as her lessons learned in responding to them, and on how to move forward effectively towards achieving compromise and collaboration. In doing so, she will also highlight her take-aways and the nuances in adapting diplomatic skills from a national to a multilateral context.
Counsellor Rasha Hamdy is an alumna of the GCSP International Training Course (ITC) 2013-2014.
Event reserved for GCSP alumni. Please login to MyGCSP to register.
