11th Zermatt Roundtable on Security Issues in Northeast Asia

From 31 March to 2 April 2025, the 11th Zermatt Roundtable convened in Montreux, Switzerland, bringing together around 30 senior government officials and ten leading experts from Northeast Asia, Europe, and the United States. Co-organised by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), the roundtable provided a trusted setting for open and informal dialogue on pressing regional security challenges.

This year’s discussions focused on long-term security trends and future scenarios for Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula. Participants expressed deep concern over the deteriorating regional security environment and explored innovative diplomatic strategies aimed at addressing mutual concerns and reducing the risk of further escalation.

Dialogue facilitation was led by the GCSP, with key contributions from Director Ambassador Thomas Greminger, Director of International Security Dialogue Ms Alexandra Matas, Head of Arms Control and Disarmament Mr Simon Cleobury, and Head of Asian Affairs Dr Linda Maduz. Together with the Swiss FDFA, the GCSP remains committed to providing this platform for open and meaningful discussions on security in Northeast Asia.
